Muchas Gracias to everyone that attended the BSD School Board meeting Jan 19th.
We had nearly 100 people come to support the school – prompting a photo op from Superintendent Rose when we all stood at the end to show our support!
We were well represented by board emeritus member, Jim Mullaney, 3rd grade teacher, Maria Rodriguez and parent, Jodi Rathbun.
A follow up message will be sent to the BSD school board with some great videos produced by Jarrad Bowen.  They will include our school essay contest winners- Erik Greenley, Averi Richardson and Annabelle McCaffery; testimony from our middle school English Language Arts teacher, Aaron Bronikowski, parent, Glenda Donato, and former students, Caitlynn Lee and Cali De Armas.
Thank You to everyone that participated in the effort to showcase our school to the BSD board and put forth solid statements in support of our charter renewal.

Planning for Next Year

We have already received a couple of great ideas, but we want to hear more. We would like to invite the community to submit ideas for events, activities, fundraisers, etc. that you would like to see the PTO consider. Please send your ideas to


6th Annual Fiesta Night and Auction:

  • Congratulations to our first Early Bird prize winner – Leticia Christopherson!  Prizes will be drawn every week through January so the earlier you sign up to attend, the better your chances! Consider buying a table (for a lower per seat cost) and inviting friends and family as well. To buy tickets click here. Prices go up after Feb. 15th so don’t delay!
  • We need your help! Do you have a timeshare, condo, cabin, or 2nd house somewhere? If so, PLEASE consider donating a week or couple nights stay at it for our school auction. These are huge money makers for us so let the auction team know if you can do it.
  • We’re in need of more sponsors – these are companies that donate to our school and are advertised in our Auction Program. Ask if your company will be a sponsor! Sponsorship starts at just $250; Donations of $500 and up include VIP seating at the event! Go big and ask for $1K!

Have you snapped some pictures of your child and their amigos this year?  We’d love to see them!  Jog-A-Thon, Field Trips, Assemblies, Recess, Art time, Class time…any time!  Please share your pictures with the yearbook team here.

School Board Appreciation Month


WHEREAS, the school board creates a vision for what students should know and be able to do;

Friday Updates – January 8, 2016

Open Enrollment begins today!

As you saw from our post earlier today, Open Enrollment for the 2016-2017 school year begins today. This is for NEW students only. If your child is currently attending Arco Iris, you do not need to complete the online application. However, siblings not currently attending and wanting to enroll next fall need to go through the online application process. Please see our enrollment page for more details.

Arco Iris Town Hall Meeting

The Arco Iris School Board has scheduled four town hall meetings this year in the Prayer room. The second one is coming up on Tuesday, January 12 @ 6:00-7:00 pm. Please join us for some drinks, snacks and casual conversation. This will be a great opportunity to ask questions and get to know each other. Hope to see many of you there.

  • Parent Parties – Would you be willing to host a party for other parents? We have parties listed on poster boards at the auction where parents can sign up to attend. We’ve had Margarita Parties, cooking parties, Wine in the Countryside; anything you can dream of is an option! Please contact our auction team to host one.
  • Teacher Parties – We need parents to sponsor a party that the teacher hosts for students. Parents can sign up for a “poster party” at the auction for their child to attend. We’ve had ice skating parties, tea parties, lunch with the teacher. Please contact our auction team to sponsor a Teacher party (parents can join together).

Open Enrollment Begins Today!

We will be accepting applications for the 2016-2017 school year between January 8 through February 8, 2016 for students in grades 1 through 8. We are not opening a kindergarten this fall.

Enrollment applications for new students can be filled out online. The link to our application is available on our Enrollment Page. If your child currently attends Arco Iris, you will receive an “Intent to Enroll” so there is no need to re-enroll online.

We have posted all the details for enrollment on the website, including our Process for Admittance as well as our Things to Consider.

Please review these pages if you are interested in enrolling your child(ren) at our school.

We will also hold an Open House for those families who are interested in learning more about our school. This info session will be held at our school (13600 SW Allen Blvd). Please park in rows D and higher and enter the facility through Building C – these are the school entrance doors.

Friday Updates – December 18th

Have a fantastic Winter Break!

Winter Performance Keepsake DVD: It is not too late to get your copy of the 2015 Winter Performance DVD. Order online to get your copy the second week of January.

Special Thanks: For those of you who didn’t know, Jarrad Bowen has worked so hard to put together an amazing winter performance DVD. As a parent of a 2nd grader at Arco Iris, he was invested in the quality of the video he is producing. He attended many practice sessions, to ensure that the audio and picture quality were right. He gathered multiple cameras and microphones to capture more of the performance. He spent hours editing and preparing the DVD’s for us. The PTO wants to send out a special message of appreciation to Jarrad Bowen, for going above and beyond on this project.

Spring Book Fair: Mark your calendars for the Spring Scholastic Book Fair! It is scheduled for May 23-26, 2016 and will be a BOGO (Buy One Get One) fair; for every book you buy, you can get a book for free! This will be fabulous opportunity to stock up for summer reading on both English and Spanish titles. Look for volunteer opportunities for this fun event in the spring.

Friday Updates – December 11th, 2015

2015 Winter Performance Keepsake DVD:

TODAY is the last day to preorder your DVD and get it before winter break.

Or to pre-order your DVD of the 2015 Winter Performance at $12 each, place a check labeled “DVD”, in the PTO box by December 11th. Orders placed by December 11th will be ready for pick up on December 18th. Watch for our table at pick up on December 11th. Orders placed between December 12th and 18th will be $15 and ready for pick up, the second week of January.

Menus were sent home this afternoon with students. We have copies in the office,it was  attached to the weekly update email and it is also posted on the website, Hot Lunch Program.

Southwest Music School Beginning Violin Class now Forming at Arco Iris

COST  –  $315 for 20 classes including the final Grand Concert.  (About $14 per class.)

INSTRUMENTS  –  Students furnish their own instruments. We suggest renting, as students grow and may need larger instruments.

CLASSES –  for students grades 1-8.  Classes have 5 – 10 students and will begin January 12th, Tuesdays, 4:00 PM at Arco Iris School. We follow the Beaverton school schedule. Parents are encouraged to stay for class and actively help students learn skills during daily practice.

SOUTH WEST MUSIC SCHOOL – a non-profit community music school located in Beaverton.  We are dedicated to providing a high-quality violin and stringed instrument education with ensemble performance opportunities for all in a non-competitive environment.

You’ve​ all​ heard about how important fundraising is to the continued growth and success of our wonderful school, and how we each must share in that effort to successfully reach our goals. This is your only opportunity of the school year to support Arco Iris while also enjoying drinks​,​ dinner​, ​and a night of camaraderie with other Arco Iris ​fellow parents, teachers, staff​ and supporters at ​a party that is not to be missed!

This is your chance to have your child attend one of the many fun teacher-led activities, get in on parties with other parents, and bid against your friends to score one of our beautiful student art pieces. If so, please ask restaurants or entertainment places for a donation to support our school (say this: “I’d like to ask about a possible charitable donation” It’s easy!). It’s time for Feria de Ingeniería y Ciencias

2016 Science and Engineering Fair 
General Information and project proposal forms will be sent home with students next week. Information is also available online at

Participating students should complete either the Scientific Inquiry Proposal OR the Engineering Design Proposal. Forms are due by Tuesday, January 5th, 2016.

The Feria de Ingeniería y Ciencias will be held in the evening of Thursday, March 3 – Mark your calendars now!

Lost and Found:

As we head into winter break, please don’t forget to check lost and found for your children’s treasures. Items left after noon on Friday, December 18th will be donated to charity.
