Charter Renewal Committee – The Charter Renewal Committee will be holding it’s first meeting on Thursday, September 17 at 4:45 pm, prior to the September School Board meeting (6:00 pm). The Charter Renewal Committee is a new committee of the Arco Iris school board charged with overseeing our upcoming Charter contract renewal with the Beaverton School District. Committee meetings are open to the public. The meeting agenda can be found here (2015-09-17 Charter Committee Agenda). All parents are encourage to attend board and committee meetings. We hope to see you next week!
Mark your calendars … The 4th Annual Arco Iris School Jog-a-thon is coming Friday, October 2nd. Volunteers will be needed to help during shifts from 8:45 am – 1:00 pm. As this is our first opportunity to help with the students, don’t forget that all volunteers will need to complete the background check and register with parentbooker prior to helping. More information coming soon, including some exciting changes!
Background checks and Parentbooker – Please be advised that in the beginning of the school year many background check applications are being processed, causing a slower then usual turn around. Please DO NOT submit a second background check request, as this causes additional expenses for our school. Once the school receives your approval, your name will be given to the PTO Volunteer Coordinator as approved to participate in volunteer opportunities. If you have not registered with Parentbooker or if registered under a different name, we will not be able to include you in the communications about these opportunities. Once the approval is received, our Volunteer Coordinator will open your access and you can sign up for any of the opportunities that fit your availability.
Currently the daily traffic cone set-up is the only volunteering opportunity we have. The teachers typically take the first month to set up a routine and assess the needs in the class. Once the teachers have determined when they will need volunteers in the classroom, or with specific projects, they will submit the schedule to the PTO Volunteer Coordinator to announce through Parentbooker.
The delay in background checks is typical and should not get in the way of volunteering come October.
School Carpool – We’re sure you noticed this week how busy pickup and drop off can be at our school! Now that the exciting first days are behind us we hope you’re comfortable enough with this daily routine to consider joining a carpool. Even if you are a family that can manage daily drop off and pickup without help, joining the carpool can provide you with transportation options for those occasions when something comes up, and help out other families. You might be surprised by how many families live near you and how nice it is to simplify the daily driving duties, so let’s get as many homes as possible plotted on our map! To join the map and see if you have any carpool options near your home or office please send the following information to email@example.com : Your name, your address, your preferred contact phone number and e-mail address, number of children, and any special instructions such as “I can’t drive, but will contribute gas money” or “I can only drive mornings”, etc. Also, a Google account Gmail address is required to get access to the map, so please include one if your contact e-mail address is not Gmail. The Gmail address will only be used for your invitation.
Fun Community Events Coming Up – Fish Dinner Party – One of the parties sold at the auction in April is scheduled for this September, which means that our new families and anyone else who missed out on signing up can still join us. The party, hosted by the Rathbun – Shlabach family, is Saturday, September 19th from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Come experience a traditional fish dinner under the stars enjoying fried, baked, and grilled fish with all the fixings. Oregon wine and beer will be served, with homemade ice cream for dessert. These parties are a fantastic and fun way to get to know other parents! The cost for this feast is $100 per couple, with all money going directly to the school.
Mazama Lodge Overnighter – This beautiful old lodge on Mt. Hood will be all ours for the night of September 26th. It is the perfect setting for enjoying the best that the mountain has to offer in September with many hiking trails, huckleberry picking, and opportunities for exploring the area. The cost per person is $30, which includes lodging for the night in comfortable bunk rooms, dinner Saturday night, breakfast and a sac lunch on Sunday. The lodge capacity is 70, but they allow tent camping on the grounds outside the lodge if we exceed capacity or by choice. Relax by the fire and get to know other families better while the kids explore and play.
