Arco Iris families take an afternoon hike from Mazama Lodge in 2011

Mazama Lodge – We still have spaces left for our weekend at the historic Mazamas Lodge on Mt. Hood. The entire lodge will be all ours for the night of September 19th! It is the perfect setting for enjoying the best that the mountain has to offer in September. There are many hiking trails and opportunities for exploring the area, including huckleberry picking at the peak of its season on the mountain. The cost per person is $30, which includes lodging for the night, dinner Friday night, and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. The lodge capacity is 70, but they allow tent camping on the grounds outside the lodge if we exceed capacity or by choice. So reserve your spots now by signing up online (https://arcoiris.ejoinme.org/mazama2014) or dropping a check for the number of attendees in your family, made out to Arco Iris, and please write “Mazamas” in the memo line.

Room Parents – We are still looking for volunteers for Room Parents. If you are interested in becoming a room parent please email fundraising@arcoirisschool.org.

Volunteer goals – Because we are a charter school we rely heavily on volunteers.  We ask that each family contribute 20 hours of volunteer work per year.  This can be in or outside of the classroom.  We have plenty of volunteer opportunities throughout the year.   All of our jobs are posted on www.parentbooker.com. If you have not set up a volunteer account please do so.  This will keep you informed on whats coming up next and where you can help.

Jaguars Read  September Calendars were passed out in class today (September 2014 Jags Read). For new students and families (and those who need a review!), the Jaguars Read program is a voluntary, incentive based reading program that track’s students reading outside of the school day throughout the year. Students can earn fun prizes for reading each month.  Calendars will be available at the beginning of each month through your student’s teacher or in the school lobby. Calendars can be turned in at the end of each month in your student’s classroom or in the folder in the lobby. Prizes are passed out to students in class each month. Each year, student’s reading hours are rolled over to their next school year allowing them to works towards great prizes like backpacks, T-shirts, and lunch with Principal Jan.

The Jaguars Read program is run by volunteers like YOU!  If you are interested in helping with this program, please let Niki Taylo or Carrie Kirschner know.
