Happy New Year everyone! Our staff and volunteers have hit the ground running with some great stuff for 2014.
Scientific Inquiry and Engineering Fair! Our annual event is back and now with its own webpage! The 2014 Scientific Inquiry & Engineering Fair will take place at Arco Iris School on Thursday, March 20th. The Fair gives children the opportunity to use the scientific method or the engineering design process to answer questions they develop from their own observations and to share what they learn with the school community. Participation is required for students in grades 4 and higher, and optional (and encouraged!) for grades 1-3. Please see the Science Fair webpage for more details on both the science as well as the newly added engineering design. Completed Project Registration Forms are due by Friday, January 24th. Look for a bright yellow or orange information sheet coming home today with your student(s).
Open Enrollment for new students began yesterday! This is for all students who are not currently attending Arco Iris and want to enroll for the 2014-2015 school year. Spread the word to your friends, colleagues, and neighbors! As in years past, current students will receive a letter for parents to sign for attending next year, so there is no need to re-enroll. We do need you to let us know if your child will be returning next school year so we can determine the number of available spaces for new students.

Taking care of teachers – We strive to take care of our staff year round, not just during annual Teacher Appreciation Week. In December, the PTO kicked off a new program to stock a break room with healthy snacks, foods, beverages for our staff. Providing a variety of foods and beverages for our hard-working staff is an easy and affordable way for all of us to show how much we appreciate the time they are spending with our kids every day. The PTO surveyed the teachers for their specific requests and we work off this list each week. Each grade will take on a month to gather and stock items. January our 4th grade classes are kicking off the new year with this project.
Shoes for Haiti – Our friends at BCC would like to thank everyone who helped in collecting shoes and socks for children in Haiti. They are taking 200 pairs this month! That’s a lot of happy feet for some very deserving children.
