Venue Update June 2012

The Arco Iris school board has approved two new agreements for our immediate and long-term venues.

While the permitting process continues to make great progress, we are unable to secure approval before our fall 2012 start date. We have been working closely with Beaverton Christian Church, the City, our consultant team Lancaster Engineering and TM Rippey, and our volunteer project lead Todd Watkins for the past few months. A traffic study has been completed, student drop-off and parking patterns configured, and the entire package is ready for submittal to the City. The next steps will take a number of weeks and possibly into the fall, but we foresee no roadblocks and are optimistic with our progress and teamwork with all parties involved! Mary Tayor has even met with Mayor Denny Doyle and we have support all the way to the top.

In the immediate term, we have been able to secure an additional classroom with Bethlehem Lutheran Church for the 2012-2013 academic year. This extra year at our current location allows us to avoid a mid-year move and a major transition for our students and families. Bethlehem Lutheran Church is excited to have us back for another year and we of course love the building and all it has to offer our students and staff. We will be working closely with our staff and our parent site council with playground and PE challenges. We are confident that we will be able to implement improvements for everyone, especially our students.

Beaverton Christian Church and Arco Iris have come to agreements as well, including a lease date that begins summer of 2013. We are thrilled to be working so closely with the great people at BCC and we can say that this has been a positive experience for us to date. They too are excited to have us join their facility and have been working hard to help us with the permitting process with the City.

So in short – we are staying at our current home for one more year and expanding into another classroom. And we have worked out the details of a long-term lease at BCC beginning summer 2013.
