Starting soon, our 4th and 5th grade English class will begin reading Newbery Award winning novels. These novels have been chosen by the English team for their quality, diversity of characters, and for their relevance to this year’s themes. For example, My Brother Sam is Dead was chosen for its depiction of life during the American Revolutionary War, a theme addressed during Social Studies class.
To help us save costs, we’re asking families who can manage to do so, to purchase these books. After your child reads these novels, we would be happy to receive it as a donation to our school library.
Maestra Nikki has created a post on donorschoose.org. This site allows people to purchase books and other items needed for the classroom. It also tracks how many books have been purchased. This site is very useful, however we are happy to accept books in-person.
