This year we are starting a Mileage Club at our school called Jaguars on the Run. Students are encouraged to walk or run laps around the playground or the cafeteria (depending on weather) during lunch recess. Each child gets a rubber band per lap, and at the end of the period, the rubber bands are collected and laps tallied. Every 3 miles they run or walk earns them a plastic token. As they accumulate miles, they continue to earn additional prizes. The goal is to run a marathon (26.2 miles) by the end of the year.
The Jaguars on the Run Club provides an opportunity for all children to walk or run for fun and fitness. It is non-competitive and students are encouraged to show good sportsmanship and to set personal goals. It will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays every week, or every other week, depending on volunteer availability.
We hope to see your child participating in this fun, free activity!
In order to participate, please fill out the attached permission slip and have your child return it to their teacher (Jaguars on the Run permission). We also need volunteers, so if you are interested in helping out and counting laps, there is a space on the form for that also or email Karen Mount at email@example.com.
