After many weeks of consideration, the Arco Iris School Board has decided not to pursue a private kindergarten this coming academic year. The board feels the best approach is to evaluate modifying the school’s charter agreement by working with the school district to include a public kindergarten program. While a kindergarten program has been in the school’s vision for the next charter contract cycle, the overwhelming interest in a kinder program has prompted the board to look at accelerating this timeline, with an eye on the 2012/2013 academic year.
We will continue to provide updates on our charter school’s progress on our website and this blog. As we move forward with the charter revision, we may ask for volunteers to help support our request at future district board meetings. If you would like to write a letter in support of our opening a public kindergarten that includes Spanish immersion and Singapore Math, please email it to Mary Taylor (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we will include it in our request to the district. We will also notify you when the district review meeting will be held so you can attend that if possible.
There are a few parents who are looking for other options for kindergarten, one being to form a kindergarten co-op. If you are interested in finding out more, you can contact Jessica Lipscomb at JLipscomb@realtytrust.com.
We sincerely appreciate your support and interest in Arco Iris Spanish Immersion Charter School.
